Vermont’s Asbestos and Lead Regulatory Program – 2022 Program Update

In October 2022, Vermont will adopt the federal Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) authority. The Vermont Department of Health (VDH) Division of Environmental Health Asbestos and Lead Regulatory Program (ALRP) will be overseeing the new Renovation, Repair, Painting and Maintenance (RRPM) Program.

Those who perform RRP activities in Vermont will need to apply for the Vermont Lead-Safe RRPM Supervisor and Firm licenses through the
Vermont Department of Health.

There are a few ways in which the Vermont RRPM regulations are more restrictive than the federal RRP regulations including lower thresholds for when the RRPM licenses are needed to perform work that disturbs painted and stained surfaces on pre-1978 housing and child occupied facilities.
